Complete Garden Transformation in Barnet

The Brief

A family in Barnet wanted to bring their tired back garden up to a usable, attractive standard before the summer. The space had a rotting timber deck, slabs that had lifted along the patio, planting that had not been refreshed in years, and a perimeter fence that was past its useful life. They asked us to handle the whole thing as one continuous project so they did not need to coordinate multiple trades.

What We Did

The project ran across roughly three weeks and covered four core trades:

• Site clearance: Lifted and removed the old timber deck and broken slabs, took down the failing fence panels and posts, and stripped overgrown borders back to bare soil.
• Composite decking: Built a new sub-frame and laid composite boards across the section the family use as their entertaining space, with concealed fixings and a clean shadow gap to the patio.
• Block paving patio: Excavated and re-laid the patio in fresh permeable block paving, with proper falls for drainage and joint-filling aggregate that keeps weeds down.
• Fresh planting: Built two raised flower beds from railway sleepers along the rear boundary, planted with a mix of evergreen structure and seasonal colour selected for the soil and aspect of the garden.
• New fence run: Replaced the perimeter with close-board panels on concrete-set posts to a 2 ft depth, including trellis tops along one side for additional privacy.
• Cleanup: Removed all green waste and rubble (composted and recycled where possible) and left the garden ready to be lived in.

The Result

A garden that finally feels like part of the house , a usable deck for summer evenings, a practical patio for the table and chairs, a clean fence line that the neighbours liked too, and planting that looked finished from day one rather than needing a year to establish.

Job duration: Approximately three weeks across three workstreams, scheduled around the family's holiday so the noisier work happened while they were away.
