A replacement starts with checking what is underneath the old boards. Existing joists can only be retained if their condition and the new decking specification allow it. Access, levels, edges and the finish around doors or balustrades all affect the work.

What affects the cost of a deck?
Board choice, deck size, access, removal of an old deck and the work needed below it all matter. Steps, awkward shapes and details around doors or balustrades can change the scope. The Whetstone project is a specific example, not a price list.
Your questions about decking installation
Do you fit timber and composite decking?
Yes. We can discuss both options and the care they need. The right choice depends on your garden, the desired finish and the product specification.
Can the old joists be reused?
Sometimes, but only after checking their condition and suitability for the new boards. The Whetstone project retained a sound sub-frame; that does not mean every old deck can.
Is composite decking maintenance-free?
No. It still needs cleaning and care according to the selected manufacturer's instructions. Compare actual products rather than assuming all composite boards behave alike.
